New review published in Annual Review of Biophysics
We are delighted to share that our new review, ‘Imaging dynamic subcellular organisation at high spatiotemporal resolution’, has been published in the Annual Review of Biophysics.
The review explores what we can learn by visualising the movement of intracellular compartments, which underpin essential cellular functions such as protein synthesis. A central challenge in microscopy is matching the spatial and temporal resolution of an imaging technique to the size and speed of the biological structures being studied. While larger, slower structures such as mitochondria can be imaged using a range of approaches, smaller and faster components, including RNA-containing granules, remain more difficult to capture.
Our review examines recent advances in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy that aim to bridge these gaps in spatiotemporal coverage, highlights key biological applications, and discusses future directions for the field.
The review was authored by Francesca van Tartwijk, Liuba Dvinskikh, Edward Ward, Meng Lu and Clemens Kaminski. We also extend our thanks to the production and figure editors at Annual Reviews for their excellent support throughout the publication process.
