Why join CEB?

At CEB, you’ll join a thriving community of scientists, engineers and professional specialists working at the forefront of discovery and innovation.

Our community includes academic staff, multiple research groups carrying out independent research, postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers as well as our professional and technical staff. We also have at least 15 nationalities represented across the Department

We believe that the best ideas emerge when talented people with different experiences and perspectives work together. Collaboration, creativity and intellectual curiosity are at the heart of what we do.

An inclusive environment

We are committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is recognised through our Athena Swan Bronze Award and ongoing work to support staff and students across the Department.

Department life

Community is an important part of life at CEB. A long-standing departmental tradition, established by our first Head of Department, Terence Fox, brings staff and students together twice each day for tea.

Originally intended to encourage the exchange of scientific ideas and foster collaboration across disciplines, tea remains a valued part of departmental life today. It provides an opportunity to discuss research, share perspectives, build connections and strengthen our community. Everyone is welcome.
