Biography

Professor Patrick Barrie is Professor of Chemical Engineering Education at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. 

Patrick obtained his BA in Natural Sciences from The University of Cambridge in 1987 and earned his PhD from the University in 1991. His research covers NMR characterisation of solids, the behaviour of molecules in porous solids and data analysis methods to extract physically meaningful parameters from experimental data on process kinetics. 

After a stint as a Research Fellow at University College London from 1991 to 1995, Patrick rejoined The University of Cambridge and has served as an academic ever since. He is a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge and External Director of Studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge. 

In his spare time, Patrick competes in tiddlywinks tournaments and has been known to win national and world titles.
