Driven by curiosity. Driving change

Biography

Professor Mick Mantle is one of three co-leaders of the Magnetic Resonance Research Centre at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.

Mick obtained his BSc degree in Chemistry from Queen Mary, University of London in 1989. He stayed at Queen Mary to complete his Masters and PhD qualifications.

Mick joined the University of Cambridge in 1994, initially as a postdoctoral researcher, before working his way up to his current position. He is a fellow of Wolfson College, where he serves as Director of Studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.

Research interests
  • Development and application of quantitative multi-nuclear magnetic resonance techniques to problems encountered in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Professor Mantle’s group focuses on the application of magnetic resonance to an ever-increasing range of research problems. Typical applications include catalysis, contaminant hydrology, structure-processing relationships in materials such as foods and pharmaceuticals, and multi-phase flow in porous materials.
