Biography
Professor Ewa Marek leads the Energy Reactions and Carriers group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. Her work integrates experimental and modelling research, using previous industrial experience and insights from material sciences, fluid mechanics, catalysis and thermodynamics.
Ewa obtained her MSc in Fuel and Chemical Processing from AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow (Poland) and completed her PhD in Carbon Capture Processes at GIG Central Mining Institute in Katowice (Poland).
Ewa moved to Cambridge in 2014, starting as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Engineering. She was appointed to a University Lectureship at CEB in 2019 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. She was promoted to Professor (Grade 11) in 2026.
Professor Marek was appointed an assistant director of the Energy Policy Research Group in 2026, alongside Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s 2027 methodology report.
She is a fellow of Jesus College and a bye-fellow of Hughes Hall College; in both, she serves as Director of Studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.
