Academic promotions
Three members of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology have been recognised in the University’s latest academic promotions round.
Dr Ewa Marek and Dr Graham Christie have been promoted to Professor (Grade 11), while Dr Zach Bond has been promoted to Associate Teaching Professor. All three will take up their new roles from October, marking the start of the 2026–27 academic year.
Ewa leads the Energy Reactions and Carriers Group, which develops sustainable energy technologies and processes to support the transition to net zero. Graham leads the Molecular Microbiology Group, which investigates the biology of bacterial spores using molecular and structural biology techniques. Zach is recognised for his contributions to teaching and education, supporting students across the Department’s undergraduate programme.
Professor Clemens Kaminski, Head of Department, said: “I am delighted to see Ewa, Graham and Zach recognised through the University’s promotions process. Their achievements reflect excellence across our Department, from world-leading research to outstanding teaching, and I warmly congratulate them on this well-deserved success.”
Dr Ewa Marek said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been promoted to Professor and want to thank everyone who supported me along the way.”
Dr Graham Christie said: “It is an honour to be promoted to Professor. Scientific discovery is always a team effort, and I have been fortunate to work with outstanding colleagues, students and collaborators whose curiosity, expertise and support have shaped my career.”
Associate Teaching Professor Zach Bond said: I would like to thank my colleagues at CEB for their guidance and support.
“My thanks also go to our undergraduates. Through their critical engagement with the subject and their constructive feedback I continue to learn as an educator.”
The promotions recognise the impact Ewa, Graham and Zach have made through their research, teaching and service, and the Department congratulates them on this achievement.
